SAN ANTONIO — A 47-year-old man was taken into custody following a shooting at the Frost Bank Center parking lot shortly after a San Antonio Spurs game late Thursday. The incident occurred as fans were leaving the arena. According to the Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, the suspect was involved in a minor vehicle collision in the parking lot. Investigators say a 48-year-old male victim, who was also leaving the game, approached the suspect’s vehicle following the crash. During the interaction, the suspect fired two shots from inside the vehicle, striking the victim in the upper body. Bystanders at the scene attempted to intervene and recorded video of the suspect's vehicle as the incident unfolded. Deputies were already patrolling the area when the shooting occurred and arrived immediately to provide medical assistance. "Thankfully, we've got a full crew here tonight of deputies, and so one of our deputies, being a tactical medic, actually had his medical kit with him and was able to administer life saving measures almost immediately," explained Sheriff Salazar. "Along with an off-duty nurse that was here, they were able to get chest seals and quick clot and most likely saved his life." // Were you at the game? Do you have photos or video of the shooting? Officials indicated one of the two shots appeared to be a "through-and-through" wound near the shoulder, while the second round remained lodged in the victim’s body. "Initially we thought he was shot through the shoulder, straight through and through. But then as he started to deteriorate in his condition, they found that there was a second, second wound pretty close to the first one," said Salazar. The suspect was detained at the scene. "We've got a weapon in the car that we're going to be executing a search warrant on here anyway, so now that time is on our side, we're going to take our time and handle this case by the numbers," explained Salazar. "That shooter is going to be facing charges of at least aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but it is possible those charges may be upgraded." Sheriff Salazar added this about the shooting, "I mean, look, at worst, this was going to be a minor crash. Stick around, do the right thing and and handle your business. You know, these guys are not young teenagers. He's certainly old enough to know better. But stick around and handle your minor crash. You know, what's the worst that's going to happen? You know, he escalated the situation. And then, of course, when the witnesses and the victim tried to do the right thing and get involved, this guy pulls a gun and then tries to kill somebody. That's just beyond, way beyond what this needed to be." _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WOAI on Instagram: / news4sa WOAI on Facebook: / news4sa WOAI on Twitter: / news4sa Subscribe to WOAI on YouTube: / @woaivideo Daily News Playlist: • WOAI 4 San Antonio Daily News Digest For more information, visit https://news4sanantonio.com/ Have a news tip?
