In this video, I share my process for making clay paint from scratch and also discuss the ingredients I use. #DIY #paint #offgrid Books I Refer to: The Natural Plaster Book by Cedar Rose Guelberth & Dan Chiras The Natural Paint Book by Lynn Edwards & Julia Lawless Using Natural Finishes: A Step-By-Step Guide by Adam Weismann & Katy Bryce Clay Paint (aka Alis) Base Coat 1 part clay 1 part marble dust (or mica or very fine sand) 1/2 part wheat flour paste Pigment - optional (no more than 20% of volume) 2-3 parts cold water for every 1 part wheat flour paste Top Coat 1 part clay 1/2 part wheat paste Pigment - optional (no more than 20% of volume) 2-3 cups cold water for every 1 part of wheat flour paste Note: Some recipes include borax to combat mold, but that’s not been a problem in our relatively dry climate. Wheat Flour Paste Whisk 1 cup of white wheat flour and 2 cups of cold water into a smooth paste. Bring 6 cups of water to boil, then slowly whisk in flour slurry. Maintain a boil and stir until paste thickens and becomes translucent. Cool and use. --------------------------------------- These are the recipes that have worked for me. You may find other recipes online or in other books with slightly different amounts of each ingredient or other additives. Experiment before committing to a large project. --------------------------------------- Music is from Artlist: https://artlist.io/
