Materials: use only very fine crochet thread for Irish crochet lace, but when you are learning it is ok to practice with thicker thread #20 (#10) and hook #0.9mm (1mm). More recommendation about thread: https://www.irishcrochetlab.com/mater... In the book you have to start this motif over the triple PC, and later the res of the motif is crochet over the single PC. You can follow this book to the dot and crochet the way they do that. I personally like thicker PC and I use a different approach. I will show you in the video how to crochet this motifs with starting to crochet over the triple PC and then I will add additional PC for more volume of a 3-D effect. Also you can start to crochet this ring as we crochet buttons: wrap working thread over the 4-5mm knitting needle 10 times, and then crochet the amount of stitches over this coil of thread. So, over the PC crochet 20sc sts. *** in the book plain stitch = single crochet. Please refer to the page before the Introduction for stitch conversion chart. Close the round w/ss (with slip stitch); ch1. R1: *over the PC, make 1sc into the st on the center ring. then 14sc only over the PC; skip 3sts on the center ring*. Repeat from * to * 4 more times. After the last 14 sts over the PC, drop PC, and make a ss into the last sc st of the center ring; also additional 2ss crochet over the first sts on the 1st arch/scallop. Notice, that PC wasn't used here at the end of the R1. R2: pick up PC again, crochet, and crochet into the back loops. ** 2sc; picot, 3sc; picot, 3sc, picot, 2sc; skip 5sc between the scallops (at the indentation between two scallops)**. Repeat pattern from ** to ** 4 more times. Every time you make one scallop, stop and adjust PC so that you will not have it shown on the back between stitches. At the end of the R2, after the last 2sc sts, drop PC on the back of the motif and make a ss into the ch1 (at the very beginning of the R2). Cut thread, and take care of PC (sew over it 5-7mm, and then weave thread on the back of the motif. Move PC on the back, this is when you have to make ss; and make ss is made into the ch1. BUTTON: Button: crochet 20sc with 5 picots, each separated with 4sc sts. Sew the button to the center of the wheel 2. Make sure that picots are visible under the scallops.
