🎶🎼🎵🔊🔉Congo's urban music scene has had a great impact on the Western experimental world of music, so let’s go back to the roots. Basokin may not have the biggest back catalogue of recorded music, but they are an integral part of a very special sound. If you’re familiar with the Congotronics series (out on Crammed Disc), you surely know bands like Konono N°1 and Kasai Allstars The latter group is a collective of five bands from Kasai, a region in central Congo. One of the bands who joined forces to form the Kasai Allstars is Basokin. Basokin means ‘the Basongye from Kinshasa’ and are originally from the Songye region, at the eastern fringe of Kasai. Their only track under the Basokin banner to come out on Crammed so far is “Mulume” off the Congotronics 2: Buzz’n’Rumble in the Urb’n’Jungle album. A sparse and relentless, trance-inducing track. And trust us on this one, they have more of that good stuff for a stunning gig. Basokin draws its audience in by means of repetition. The band combines buzzing percussion, hypnotising guitars and distorted sounds.
