Actnic means sunlight and keratosis is a thickening of the sunlight. So Actinic Keratosis is caused by many years of sun exposure. Although in India we have a lot of sun exposure this disease is very rare in Indians. It is very common in white skin people. In Caucasians, because the skin is not able to tolerate the sunlight or the dark skin, brown skinned people are able to tolerate sunlight. So they don’t develop this Actinic Keratosis. However if you see a high patch of skin in an old person, which can be a premalignant condition. So it can lead to cancer. So Actinic Keratosis when people have, multiple then there can be high risk that either one or two of them can be more than 10 then there can be high risk, that is about10 to 15% chance that one of them could be cancer, it could be squamous cell carcinoma or basal cell carcinoma.
