The PULIH Project: Protect Underwater Life through Integrated reHabilitation Coral reefs are fragile, growing slower with rising seawater levels and suffering breakage easily from intense storms in the tropics. What can we do to help broken reefs recover? In a bid to Protect Underwater Life through Integrated reHabilitation, project PULIH uses a molecular-to-ecosystem approach to study coral reef recuperation, regeneration and resilience. Unfortunately, in Malaysia, most rehabilitation efforts have not shown conclusive evidence for success. 'PULIH', which means to heal and restore in Malay, is a multidisciplinary effort to save reefs by using molecular, physiological, and ecological techniques. By helping reefs recover, Project PULIH will be safeguarding one of the most diverse and productive ecosystems in the world.
