In this session we take a look at 5 tools you can use as a songwriter to help you improve your songwriting and take it to the next level. This channel was created for established artists and bands but also for up and coming musos and enthusiasts alike. I want to share the joy of songwriting, and specifically of how to write a melody over chords on the guitar, with everyone. Many talented bands I know have struggled with the songwriting process. They are amazing on stage and true professionals in every way but when it comes to writing songs, they really struggle. But I discovered that when they were given a germ of an idea, they were inspired to create their own songs and then did so quite easily. And that's where the idea for this channel came about. So this is for them but also for artists of all types and levels and even the layperson muso out there who wants to learn how to write a song for someone they care about. Because on this channel you will learn how to write a melody on guitar or piano and even how to write song lyrics although the focus is primarily on the music and melody rather than the lyrics. Now even though this is not a tutorial on writing a song step by step, there are 5 essential parts that need to be covered when composing: ▶️ The 5 Essential Elements of Songwriting: • A melody • Lyrics • A chord progression • A rhythmic pattern • An overall structure The melody, of course is by far the most important element since that is what defines a song. The melody is what you hum or sing in the shower. The melody IS the song. The other parts usually flow naturally after the melody has been established.
