I hit the water at Shasta Lake from 1:25 PM to 5:20 PM for an afternoon bass fishing session that proved to be productive and exciting. The weather was cool and clear, with temperatures hovering around the mid-50s. A light breeze rippled the surface, creating ideal conditions for working both shallow and deeper areas of the lake. Using a mix of techniques, I managed to catch 10 bass while missing 5 additional strikes. The gear and bait of the day included: A 1/2 ounce skirted jig paired with a Bassin Bros Twin Tail Grub, which, as always, proved to be a top producer. A 5-inch Senko rigged on a 1/4 ounce shakey head. While the shakey head setup yielded more bites, the jig with the Bassin Bros Twin Tail Grub produced bigger fish. Notably, the two largest bass of the trip weighed in at 2.4 lbs each, which is solid for Shasta Lake. The longest fish measured over 18 inches, adding a thrilling highlight to the outing. The balance of quantity and quality between the two setups made for a rewarding experience, emphasizing the versatility required to fish effectively on this lake. Overall, it was a memorable and satisfying December day on the water!
