WCBS 88 New York - All News Radio Debut - Steve Porter - Charles Osgood - August 28 1967 - Radio Aircheck WCBS Newsradio 880, a staple of New York City radio, has been delivering breaking news and information to listeners for decades. Known for its in-depth coverage of local, national, and international events, the station has played a vital role in keeping NY, NJ & Conn informed. WCBS had a team of experienced journalists and reporters, like Charles Osgood, Lou Adler, Art Athens, Jim Donnelly, Pat Parson, Ben Farnsworth, Don Swaim, Jeff Caplan, Wayne Cabot, and many others kept New Yorkers informed. The station's commitment to providing reliable and accurate news has made it a trusted source for countless New Yorkers from the station's launch in 1967, to its demise in 2024. We are going back to August 28 1967, and the launch of Newsradio 88. it was an unusual launch because it did not happen on WCBS! There was a plan crash that took WCBS off the air! So the new all news format actually started on WCBS-FM 10, with news anchors Steve Porter, & Charles Osgood.
