A practical, environment-based approach to supporting parrot health, hormonal balance, and behaviour. Developed by Happy Beak in collaboration with avian veterinary care. Many of the behavioural and reproductive disorders seen in companion parrots today are not isolated training issues — they are deeply connected to lifestyle, environment, and biology. In this video, we introduce the Happy Beak Playpen: an environment developed by Happy Beak to restore the biological, behavioural, and social foundations parrots need to remain physically healthy, hormonally balanced, and emotionally stable. The playpen provides supervised outdoor exposure to natural sunlight for proper vitamin D synthesis, real flight and physical movement, structured social exposure without breeding triggers, and meaningful enrichment through foraging, climbing, chewing, and exploration. Happy Beak works closely with avian veterinarian Dr Rob Marshall (Carlingford Animal Hospital) and does not train unwell birds. Behavioural issues are often health issues in disguise — particularly in cases involving male hypersexual behaviour and female ovarian hyperactivity. This playpen-based approach complements veterinary care by addressing the environmental and lifestyle factors that frequently contribute to hormonal dysregulation. The playpen also operates in conjunction with Happy Beak’s trusted parrot boarding partners (Birds in Paradise and Parrot Nanny), who are familiar with Dr Rob Marshall’s medications, supplements, dietary recommendations, and ongoing treatment protocols. Together, this creates a cohesive, full-spectrum support system for parrots and the families who care for them. This video was presented in the context of the live Zoom event: “Male Hypersexual Behavior and Female Ovarian Hyperactivity” with Dr Rob Marshall and Tailai O’Brien, Carlingford Animal Hospital. A healthy parrot is not only easier to train — a healthy parrot is a happier parrot. #ParrotBehaviourTraining #Cockatoo Training #Macaw Training #Parrot Biting #Parrot Screaming
