After feeling a little underwhelmed with the Zpacks Duplex with Flex Pole option (I returned the tent) I decided to give the Zpacks Solplex a shot. While I am a very big fan of free standing tents I really love the light weight non free standing shelters in theory. I picked this up from Zpacks Bargin Bin section. It was listed as lightly used. I personally couldn't tell it from brand new. I could not find a single sign of use on it. I brought it out to my usual stomping grounds and gave it a quick setup in moderatly breezy conditions. The tent was exceptionally easy to set up for one person. I got it near perfect on my first attempt. It is a decent amount of room for a solo hiker and really does give you all that you need in a shelter. I have a similar "tent" in the Six Moons Designs Deschuttes tarp tent but really missed having a full coverage floor / bug net. This really covers that. The use of a second trekking pole also give the tent just enough height to keep the material off your face. While it is certainly not the cheapest tent out there it is one of the most light weight, full featured options for the lightweight / ultralight hiker (The tent with stakes and stuff sack weighs in at 1lb 3oz for me). All in all it seems like a well thought out and executed design. I intend on keeping the tent for my solo excursions. Good job Zpacks!
