As the State of the Nation Address approaches, we appeal to The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa to recognise and protect the rights of the LGBTQI+ community! With the rise of anti-LGBTQI+ rhetorics and the anti-gender movement. It is important that President Cyril Ramaphosa makes concrete commitments towards protecting these marginalised groups as well as ensures that state resources will be allocated towards ending discrimination and violence against LGBQTI+ people. In his State of the Nation Address, when the president addresses all three arms of the state and the rest of South Africa, we want the LGBTQI+ community to be included in that speech. We want our voices to be heard. We want to be addressed as part of South Africa and for the President to live up to the constitution that he helped draft and has sworn an oath to protect.
