Scientists use low and high tech methods to study the miracle of bird migration. Learn the process of bird banding, new technologies and the stories behind the super-migratory species. We will also discuss ways that everyone can help birds survive the perils of migration. During the talk, Jim briefly covers the history of bird banding, reviews the process of banding birds and introduces the latest technological developments that allow scientists to more finely track birds as they migrate. He ends the talk by sharing seven simple things people can do to help all birds (especially migratory birds). Jim McGinity is an environmental educator who has worked in non-formal and formal settings. Currently, he teaches environmental science to elementary students at Learning Gate Community School where he bands birds on the 25 acre, wooded campus.
