From the shoreline, while walking with my Yorkshire Terrier, Berlin, I launched my drone for a cinematic flyover — including a full 360° aerial view of the island’s historic medieval tower, once part of a 12th-century monastic cell connected to Tynemouth Priory. Though now closed to the public to protect its precious bird colonies, Coquet Island is rich in both wildlife and hidden history. It’s a sanctuary for puffins, roseate terns, and other seabirds — and its striking medieval architecture makes it a hauntingly beautiful sight at sunset.
