I liked to cook food, partly because I actually wanted to cook but also partly because I wanted to control the amount of calories that was going into everything. No matter what, with wherever I was at, my goal was always to find the lowest calorie option / version of something, as a way to ensure I would keep on losing weight. In the middle of my eating disorder, food was my enemy. In the middle of anorexia, even during my anorexia recovery, and years after, deep down I knew that I didn’t have a healthy relationship with food. It stressed me out too much - I knew I thought about it more than I should have.. Food has truly had such a strong grip for a decent portion of my life. Always controlling my thoughts, actions, feelings - food controlled my ‘every day’ for YEARS. With the help of a lot of other people, I was able to eventually break that control that food had over my life.. And i’m here to break down how I was able to start loving food again - how I was able to find peace with food. The ONE thing I want you to take away from this whole thing is that it doesn’t just happen overnight! This is a process that goes right alongside recovering from anorexia / recovering from an eating disorder. Im not even 100% there, but I am far enough along to confidently say that I DO have a healthy relationship with food, and that I truly have found peace with food after all these years. Just to summarize everything I talked about in the video (If you’re a reader more than a watcher), for me, here are all of the things that led to my restoration of weight and my healthy perception of food: 1. Getting back to a healthy weight 2. Professional help - help with processing, finding myself 3. Putting myself out there, eating BIG things I wouldn’t have eaten before 4. Confronting thought about food, not letting them run away with me 5. Finding a catalyst for stress that WASN’T about food 6. Reminding myself that it was OK to fail, but to pick myself back up and keep moving forward. Stay strong. Be honest with yourselves. Keep on fighting. You’re not alone. Thanks everyone!
