Restoration of Antique European Saber

Hi! Today, the restoration of an Antique European Saber. This saber is from the 19th century. The item is in poor condition. The scabbard has many dents and damages, and there are no sections of the scabbard. And everything is covered with a thick layer of rust. The hilt of the saber is dried, dirty, with lost parts of the leather. The guard is covered in patina and dirt. But I'll fix all that. There was also a single moment that soon amazed me. The first thing I did was try to unsheathe the blade. After I did this with the help of improvised means, I realized that the blade was broken. And there's about 25 cm missing. Well, that didn't stop me. I'm still working. Next, I disassembled the saber. The blade was placed in a rust remover. And I disassembled the handle and guard separately. I didn't take the handle apart completely, because that way I would have damaged the handle itself and lost the authenticity of the part. To restore the old saber hilt, I used brushes of different hardness. After manually cleaning the dust and dirt, I began to restore the broken wooden parts. I used glue for wood, glued the broken parts together. Those areas where there was not enough leather, I used old leather from a Caucasian dagger scabbard of the 19th century. After all the pieces were glued together, I moved on to restoring the leather itself, which was in very poor condition and dried out. I used pork fat and beeswax for this. It is the best tool for restoring old leather, as well as to protect it from subsequent moisture. In a steam bath, I melted the fat and wax. After I soaked the handle with this solution, I re-lubricated the handle with wax, which I also use for wood. After drying, I lubricated the handle with olive oil. I cleaned the saber guard with sand. Next, he lightly sanded it with a finely grained old sandpaper so as not to damage the object, as well as with a soft iron brush. The whole story remained on the guard of the subject. After cleaning, I placed the saber blade with warm water and baking soda to neutralize the acid effect. Then it was lightly sanded manually with an iron soft brush and cleaning agents, then rinsed with hot water, dried and oiled. After that, I put the saber back together by riveting it and adding a new small brass washer to the end of the tang. The scabbard of the saber. Restoring the iron scabbard of the saber was not an easy task. First, I used different tubes, as well as iron crossbars, to somehow restore the shape of the scabbard, which had a lot of dents. With the help of a burner, I heated certain areas and restored them as much as possible. Next, I moved on to restoring the lost parts of the scabbard. To do this, I used copper soldering, as well as iron inserts. After soldering, I sanded and cleaned the scabbard with a coarse iron brush and proceeded to remove the residual rust from the scabbard. To do this, I used a rust converter with zinc to further protect the scabbard. After cleaning, I degreased the scabbard and applied two coats of protective agent to blacken the steel. After drying, I also smeared the sheath with graphite grease. I dried the scabbard, wiped it with a dry cloth, and I successfully completed this restoration project of the European saber.
