Additional Scripture: Romans 12:5, 1 Corinthians 12 Key Points: No Lone Rangers in the Christian Life Romans 12:5: "So we, though many, are one body in Christ and individually members one of another" Because you are part of the body, YOU MATTER But you're only one part it's not all about you It's about US as the body of Christ together Don't Be a Leech Some people attend church only for their own benefit, that's called being a leech You come to suck things out of the church, get your benefits, not thinking of anybody else God wants us to come to be a blessing to one another To equip the saints for the work of ministry means participation, not spectating Spiritual Gifts: Sandwiched Between Communion and Love 1 Corinthians 12 (spiritual gifts) is between chapter 11 (communion) and chapter 13 (love) Stay connected with God, He gives us help through spiritual gifts You are wired to be a blessing in certain ways Don't exercise your spiritual gifts outside of love God doesn't want us to be uninformed about spiritual gifts We Are ONE God models the unity He wants us to have Though God exists in three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), He is ONE Though the church is made up of many members, we are ONE What a blessing to be part of one, praying for you, looking out for you, showing up when nobody else shows up Working for the Common Good God intends for all believers to work for the common good It wasn't man's idea, God instituted the local church The local church can be much more successful operating as one, functioning as one God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit stands behind every spiritual gift No Division in the Body 1 Corinthians 12:24-26: God composed the body so there may be NO DIVISION We're responsible to and accountable for one another If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one is honored, all rejoice We have license to give helpful feedback to brothers and sisters who look off track Application Questions How Are We Doing? Is there room for improvement when it comes to functioning as the body of Christ? What's our next step? Who's willing to step up to the plate? Like Isaiah: "Here I am, send me" after God touched him How Can We Be the Hands and Feet of Jesus? What part of the body are you called to be? Who's not connected yet? (When you lose connection, you're not working right) Do you know the needs of one another? Get to know people enough to recognize needs before asking Creating Space for Fellowship Post-pandemic, there's a HUGE need for more fellowship We can't force fellowship, but we can CULTIVATE it Living Truth is not about building more programs, it's about building church family where people BELONG Acts church: devoted to apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, communion, prayer "I Need You to Survive" The praise team sang "I Need You to Survive" the same day Pastor preached about being one body We need each other to survive We all need God, but we all TOGETHER need God Join us for this convicting message that will challenge you to move from spectator to participant in the body of Christ.
