The Bryges, their Connection to the Phrygians and the modern Albanians

The Bryges were an ancient tribe thought to have lived in the Balkans, including modern-day Albania, before migrating to Anatolia around the 12th century BCE, where they became known as the Phrygians. The Labëria region in southern Albania, known for its distinct traditions, is one area where the Bryges are believed to have lived before their migration. Clemens Alexandrinus, (cir. 150 AD) writes: "Τυρρηνοὶ (68) σάλπιγγα ἐπενόησαν καὶ Φρύγες αὐλόν Φρύγες γὰρ ἤστην | Ὄλυμπος τε καὶ Μαρσύας." "The Tyrrhenians invented the trumpet, and the Phrygians invented the flute. For the Phrygians were skilled in hymns and laments."
