One Summer's Day (from Spirited Away) - Cello Quintet

This is a cover of One Summer's Day, from the film Spirited Away, composed by Joe Hisaishi, and arranged for 5 celli (plus a hidden 6th part). Another recommendation from a friend! Hisaishi has an incredibly recognizable orchestral sound for a modern day composer - so much of his output is buried deep in the hearts and minds of those who grew up watching Ghibli films. Every so often, you encounter a person that makes you recall the whimsy of these films - and this time, I was inspired enough to play it, too! Thanks to Naomi and Kira for their recommendation! In arranging for any cello ensemble, one of the most difficult things I've encountered is making sure ranges stay separated - originally, the melody (center part) is played an octave up. In this case, while writing it an octave down reduces the overall "lift" the melody carries, it gains a certain introspective quality as well. This not only stems from it being played in a much better sounding area for the cello, but also for it directly crossing the range of the chordal accompaniment.
