Friday March 22nd, 2019, saw the launching of an Ad Hoc Cannabis Committee which is geared to Mirror and follow the work of ASTM D37. ASTM Committee D37 on Cannabis was formed in 2017 to develop standards for cannabis. The St. Lucia Bureau of Standards has an Memorandum of Understanding with the ASTM and according to the Director of the SLBS, the organization will leverage that MOU to ensure that persons interested in Cannabis and the development of Cannabis standards in St. Lucia, fully participate in the work of ASTM D37. The SLBS has established a National Ad Hoc Mirror Committee of ASTM international on Cannabis (Committee D37) which brings together representatives of Educational and research institutions; State and non-State actors with a wealth of experience that will guide the participation in the ASTM Committee and adoption of the appropriate standards. After the Launching, the SLBS Director Verne Emmanuel says, the committee will then be fully upraised as to the work that has been done in terms of Cannabis standards internationally and also to be able to participate and input in the development of standards for Cannabis moving forward. The Director says there’s no preset timeframe for such developments, the normal Standards Developing process takes 18 to 24 months. The Launching took place at the Conference room of the SLBS Headquarters in Bizee.
