Sony nutzte die IFA für die Vorstellung dreier neuer 4K-HDR-Projektoren der VPL-Serie. Als Spitzenmodell gilt dabei der VPL-VW870ES mit 2200 Lumen Helligkeit. Sony verbessert bei allen drei Modellen die Zwischenbildberechnung namens „4K Motionflow“ und will damit für noch schärfere Bilder und flüssigere Bewegungsabläufe sorgen. Sie können HDR und bieten HDMI 18-GB/s-Kompatibilität für eine Verarbeitung von Videosignalen bis 4K 60P 10-Bit. Dabei ist auch die Sony-eigene „Reality Creation“-Funktion mit dabei. Der VPL-VW870ES wird von Sony mit einem 18-teiligen „All Range Crisp Focus (ARC-F)“-Objektiv aus Glas ausgestattet, womit eine besonders gute Bildqualität garantiert sein soll. Der eingebaute „Digital Focus Optimiser“ verspricht eine präzise Fokussierung ohne Verzerrungen. Alle drei liefern native 4096 x 2160 Pixel und haben dafür Sonys 4K-SXRD-Panel integriert. Der 570er als Nachfolger des VPL-VW360ES und VPL-VW550ES kommt auf eine Helligkeit von 1800 Lumen, der kleine VPL-VW270ES schaffte es noch auf 1500 Lumen.
