Burnout plagues so many entrepreneurs it's practically a right of passage. Especially for growth stage. The lessons and learnings I have on it have been hard earned. Here I hope to fast track you to healing so you don't have to learn the hard way I did. Burnout is not fake, it is not a necessity, and it is not your friend. It is a cluster of symptoms that will lead to real shut down if you do not manage it at the onset. This is how to start on the path to management and healing. For continued healing, breathwork and somatic healing around the Vagus Nerve is what you need. 🧘♀️Here is also a list of things you can try today to begin healing: 🧘♀️ Cold Exposure (Mammalian Dive Reflex): Apply a cold pack to the face or sides of the neck for 15-30 seconds to stimulate the vagus nerve and slow the heart rate. Vocalizations and Vibrations: Hum, sing, or make a "Voo" sound (a low-toned, "foghorn" sound from deep in the belly) to create vibrations that stimulate the nerve. Somatic Shaking: Gently shake your body (feet, arms, shoulders) for 1–2 minutes to release stored tension and transition out of shutdown. Yoga: Stretches of the upper abdomen, especially elongating poses such as snake pose can help stretch the nerve and help it relax. I've also found stretches of the thigh/pelvis help as well. Neck and Eye Positioning: Interlace your fingers behind your head, look to the right, and wait for a yawn, swallow, or sigh (signaling nervous system shift), then repeat on the left. If it doesn't happen within the first few minutes, you can purposefully do one of those to lead your body into relaxation. Deep Diaphragmatic Breathing: Practice 4-7-8 breathing (inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, exhale for 8 seconds) to calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety. Orientation to Safety: Slowly look around your immediate environment, focusing on objects that feel safe or comforting to break the immobilization response. If you find these responses happen at a specific time (clocking into work or when you open your emails) then add some items into that space that can trigger that feeling. Also, consider removing the triggering stimuli if it is adding to the effect. Empowerment through Martial Arts or the Gym: Taking kickboxing lessons at the local gym was helpful to motivate me to leave the house and build my confidence on a task that was not my career/standard schedule. This can be helpful to offer reprieve.
