Film Analysis | Scream – Manipulating Expectations In this video I will be dissecting the 1996 Slasher horror film, directed by the late Wes Craven and the script written by Kevin Williamson. In this video essay of Scream, I will be focusing on how Wes Craven uses two devices, red herrings and foreshadowing throughout the film to both fool audiences, while also giving them information on who Ghostface really is. And how each device intertwines with the other to manipulate audience’s expectations. Also note that many of the scenes with dialogue were taken from the final cut film, than in the original script. I have read the original script by Kevin Williamson (the only one I could find), and many of the details that showcased red herrings and foreshadowing, are not in the original script, but were added later during production. Footage from: Alien (1979) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Friday 13th (1980) Halloween (1978) L.A Confidential (1997) Minority Report (2002) Scream (1996) Image References: https://www.wired.com/wp-content/uplo...
