It opened to great fanfare in 1970 and has struggled ever since. Today many of its storefronts stand empty with reminders of past businesses. But beyond its deadness there is a strange feeling people can get walking through the dead part of the mall, a feeling of coldness and dread. As I mull this aspect of visiting this place over I delve into the history of the site that the mall was built upon to see that it has a somewhat troubling past. Primarily, this site was the location of the Morningside Hospital, a hospital for the mentally ill.
