I want to be very clear about posting this video. This is in NO WAY me taking a stance for ANY side of this current event. When I initially saw the protestors pass my car, i knew i had to go and capture it. This is a video simply of what I witnessed. There are things people do and say in this video that i do not agree with BUT I think it is so important that we at least can see what is going on and share what is going on. I attempted to capture as many perspectives as I possibly could, traveling from the front lines of the HandsUpDontShoot protests, through the crowd and from the perspective of the police as well. Overall, it was a peaceful protest. There were a few people antagonizing the police officers that were on the scene, but overall... everyone seemed to behave. At certain points in the video, people from the "same side" were even arguing about different aspects of this VERY complicated situation. If you plan on taking any type of stand, i STRONGLY encourage educating yourself as much as humanly possible from all perspectives. I followed this protest from Sunset/Highland intersection, down through Hollywood. They marched where the man was shot on HollywoodAndHighland a few weeks ago. At one point, all of the protestors laid in the middle of Hollywood/Highland intersection. I would say, at the peak of the protest, there were 200-300 people, 20 cop cars, 15 cops on bikes, a full SWAT team and SO MANY onlookers. Between the hashtags, instagrams, twitters of all the people that had attended, i can't imagine any of this was missed by social media. At one point in this video, I spoke with one of the men that appeared to be one of the leaders/organizers of the protests. He is one of the heads of Ferguson to LA organization. I attempted to remain as objective as possible. I attempted to be a ghost with a lens. Simply viewing and bearing witness to the goings-ons of the protest. Years ago I worked for ABC and then FOX/NBC local affiliate stations. I am familiar with the standard news format. I did my best to cover as much of this as possible and not to partake in any activity that would harm the objectivity of this video. LMK in the comments how you're feeling about all of this going on.
