The use of wires for tumor localization comes with complications, including patient discomfort, wire displacement and removal issues, and logistic challenges given their need for insertion on the day of surgery. A growing number of seed-based devices are becoming available which can be implanted into the breast ahead of surgery and circumvent many of the disadvantages of wire methods.
