“That entire string of events was absolutely shameful, was not journalism.” Former BBC journalist Karishma Patel speaks about the BBC’s “shameful” coverage of al-Shifa hospital in November 2023. During the Israeli raid on the hospital, accounts surfaced of patients being shot while in their beds and staff members being executed by Israeli forces. The hospital’s infrastructure was heavily damaged, causing the deaths of patients due to the loss of electricity, oxygen and medical support. Witnesses also reported detentions, mistreatment and abuse inside the facility.
