Split-grade printing is a powerful darkroom printing technique that can be used in the traditional analog darkroom for printing black-and-white fine art prints. To use this technique in the darkroom you must be printing on variable contrast photo paper. With split-grade printing, you are able to achieve different levels of contrast for different areas of a single print. This offers a high level of final print control for the serious darkroom printer. I learned photography in a darkroom and wanted to share my current setup and workflow. In this age of digital imaging, it is hard for me to believe that traditional silver wet printing is basically now an alternative process. Analog film is having an amazing resurgence. Many people are shooting film and scanning negs with amazing results.
