7m Long MEDUSA WORM - creepy marine creature Mini Doco

One of the longest Medusa Worms around - this behemoth of a worm was spotted on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef! Their supposedly only supposed to grow between 15-30cm with some 'exceptionally large' ones getting to nearly 3m, but this guy was far, far beyond that! Darkness on the reef really does tend to bring out, some of the weirder Marine animals... Medusa Worms (Synapta maculata) are one of the more ancient marine species. Very little Is known about their existence. Deceivingly, these worms are actually Sea Cucumbers, and the worlds largest Sea Cucumber at that! Their mouth is surrounded by long spicules, or tentacles, that have a strong adhesive designed to catch food. The tentacles rotate in a continuous motion, catching particles before folding back towards the mouth for consumption. It is believed they are also toxic. Almost like a scared turtle, when spooked, the Medusa worm can suck in it’s entire head inside it’s body for protection. Hope you enjoyed this weird and wacky animal film!
