Welcome back to History with Seb! We create animated history videos. This video is about the First Sino-Japanese War from July 1894 to April 1895. The First Sino Japanese War was a significant military conflict between Qing Dynasty China and Meiji Japan over the control of Korea, a tributary state to China at the time. Instigated by Korea's internal strife and the subsequent interventions by both nations, the war revealed China's declining military might and the rise of Japan as a new imperial power in East Asia. After several decisive battles, notably on the sea and in Korea, the Treaty of Shimonoseki was signed in April 1895, which ceded Taiwan to Japan, recognized Korea's independence (thus ending its tributary relationship with China), and imposed large indemnities on China.
