Dieses Stück greift die frühe A-B-A-Form meiner drei Etüden auf, kehrt allerdings deren Virtuosität um und verwendet für die Rahmenteile ein „Sehnsuchtsmotiv“, das durch die Stimmen hindurchgeführt und variiert wird. Der Mittelteil hingegen ist belebter und bringt dessen zweites Thema durch eine motorische Achtelbewegung bewegt voran. Anklänge an die Musik von Edvard Grieg sind mithin gewollt." This piece takes up the early A-B-A form of my three etudes, but reverses their virtuosity and uses a "longing motif" for the frame sections, which is carried through and varied by the voices. The middle section, on the other hand, is more animated, advancing its second theme with a motoric eighth-note movement. Echoes of the music of Edvard Grieg are thus intentional."
