Minds in Motion: An Art Science Collaboration | Gina Grimshaw & Ed Davis | NZGDC 2025

Multisensory virtual reality combined with motion simulation provides unique opportunities to understand the human mind. We can use VR to simulate real-world experiences under controlled laboratory conditions, and we can track how people might respond to impossible worlds. In this talk, we’ll describe a collaboration between the Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Lab at Victoria University of Wellington and Ed Davis Indie VR & Motion-Sim developer, in which we capture the many dimensions of human experience in virtual worlds. Our finding will interest developers who are keen to better understand their users, and scientists who are curious about the human mind.
