Wanted to try an experiment if I could take acrylic paint and turn it into chalk paint. My go-to paint for a chalk finish is using the Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint by DecoArt. The colours are all pre-mixed which is fine, but I prefer to use paints with the colour index information on the tubes/bottles so I can more refine my colour mixing. In saying this, if I was to create a home decor piece, I would use the Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint, just from the ease and the colour palettes that I use is personalized to my style. But let's say I wanted to create a painting and I love the finish and feel of chalk paint and I wanted to do the refined colour mixing. That's where the DecoArt Chalk Finish medium comes into play. I've never used it with the DecoArt Americana Premium Acrylics before. This paint line is very thick. I have used the chalk medium successfully with the DecoArt Traditions and Media Fluid Acrylics line. and there is a surprise experiment in the second half! Ready to try this? This is what I used: Substrate: Unprimed 140 lb smooth watercolour paper Palette: DecoArt Americana Premium Acrylics -Ultramarine Blue - DTA33 -Quinacridone Violet - DTA01 -Hansa Yellow Light - DTA18 -Yellow Oxide - DTA15 -Burnt Sienna - DTA09 Medium: DecoArt Chalk Finish Medium - DS133 Brushes: Any brush to create the paint swatches. General: water container, paper towels and grey palette paper in the surprise experiment in the second half, I'm showing my old Masterson Sta-Wet Palette. ------------------------------------ If you haven't already, please subscribe to my channel so you don't miss anything, give me a thumbs up if you found this video informative and please comment below with your thoughts or suggestions for future projects.
