After yesterday's disappointing failures of not just one but both of the sirens I had planned to record, I decided to make the trip out to Mantua to see their 8/16 port Sterling M-10 for its weekly test. This M-10 is the only siren in Mantua besides a long-disconnected 2001-DC at the high school, which has its power turned off. This M-10 used to be Mantua's old fire siren, and is a later M-10, having been installed in July 1956 (the M-series was made from the late 1920's up until the 1970's when Sterling Siren and Fire Alarm Co. was bought by, and ultimately became, Sentry Siren, Inc). It was refurbished some time ago, repainted, and installed on top of a former windmill on a wooden platform and is located right next to Village Hall. This siren is activated automatically by a time-clock/timer system rather than being manually activated via radio for tests, and goes off every Sunday at 12:02 on the dot. Near the end of the test while the siren is winding down I zoomed in on the siren so you can see the choppers spinning. It was pretty loud (louder than I had expected) and the ground vibrated a little while it was sounding! I was just happy to finally hear my first Sterling, and it did not disappoint! Unfortunately, since Village Hall is situated on a steep hill, there's no good recording spots across the street that aren't private property and that you can actually see the entire siren from, I had to set up directly facing the sun and film from the parking lot of Village Hall. The geography of the area makes it difficult to find any other recording spots, and had I set up across the street, cars would have gotten in the shot, so I was forced to stay put for those two reasons, so I apologize for the purple outline (which is from the glare off my camera lens), but it was either that or no video at all. Anyways, enjoy! Cameras: Canon Vixia HF-R700 (video and audio), Canon PowerShot SX50HS (photos) © Copyright 2018 by firefreak57 studios. Do not copy any content on this channel without permission.
