The only gift the boy could think to offer was that of his only talent at playing the drum, and his gift was accepted by Mother Mary and the Baby Jesus. The carol’s message dealt with humility and that offering what you have, no matter how small, to honor something sacred. The boy’s simple drumbeat becomes a heartfelt gift, showing that genuine love and devotion are the most valuable presents you can offer. Believe it or not, the first recording of “Little Drummer Boy” was by the famous Trapp Family Singers. Yes, the very same ones from the movie, The Sound of Music. It has been redone by many artists including Johnny Cash, David Bowie and Bing Crosby (quite the duet), and the Vienna Boys Choir to name but a few.
