SAMUNDRA MANTHAN- A Nritya Natika presented by the students of BASAVA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

The story of Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean) is a profound tale from Indian mythology, symbolizing cooperation and cosmic balance. To obtain Amrita, the nectar of immortality, the Devas (gods) and Asuras (demons) decided to churn the ocean. Mount Mandara served as the churning rod, and Vasuki, the serpent, was used as the rope. Lord Vishnu, in his Kurma (tortoise) avatar, supported the mountain to prevent it from sinking. As the ocean churned, several treasures emerged, including Kamadhenu (the divine cow), Kalpavriksha (the wish-granting tree), Apsaras, and Goddess Lakshmi. Alongside these wonders came Halahala, a deadly poison, which Lord Shiva consumed to save the universe, turning his throat blue and earning the name Neelkanth. Finally, Dhanvantari, the celestial physician, emerged with the pot of nectar. Lord Vishnu, as Mohini, distributed the nectar, ensuring the Devas' victory and the restoration of cosmic harmony.
