Ultimately, Judge West honored the plea agreement and placed Mr. Newman on 10 years of deferred probation, ordered a $1,000 fine, restitution, completion of the JCDI treatment program, use of a drug patch, and 15 days in the Jefferson County Jail. Judge West stressed that any violation could result in up to 20 years in prison, while successful completion would lead to dismissal of the case. In the second matter, Isaac Mitchell pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor assault family violence charge. Judge West accepted the plea, ordered a pre-sentence investigation, modified bond conditions to remove GPS monitoring and no-contact restrictions, and strictly prohibited firearm possession. Judge West emphasized rehabilitation, family stability, and preventing future violence before resetting the case for sentencing.
