Initially best known for playing baddies in South Indian and Hindi films, he is now more likely to appear in character roles in pieces with a social conscience. A prime example of this was his strong performance in the 2008 national award-winning Tamil movie “Kanchivaram”, which highlighted the pitiable living conditions endured by Tamil silk weavers of the 1940s. Prakash’s active interest in politics began after his friend, journalist Gauri Lankesh, was assassinated in September 2017. His political writing, Lok Shaba campaigning, and social media movement ‘hashtag #justasking’, show his interest in exposing societal issues that would otherwise languish in the dark. Prakash is reflecting deeply on his creative career and political life with the editor, investigative journalist and award-winning media entrepreneur Dhanya Rajendran, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the South Indian digital news platform ‘The News Minute’, Dhanya is also a vocal supporter of women’s rights and safety, and a member of the Network for Women in Media, India.
