The A34 is one of the longest A-roads in Britain, running for 200 miles (320km) from Winchester on the south coast to Salford near Manchester, although it is now split into two halves which are joined by the M40 motorway. The Wilmslow-Handforth Bypass was constructed in the mid-1990s, bypassing the busy A34 through Wilmslow, Handforth and Heald Green, beyond which it joins up to Kingsway leading into City Centre Manchester. It was built as a dual-carriageway, but there are 8 roundabouts on the route in less than 5 miles. Consequently there can be frequent delays at peak times. Although a bypass, the route actually threads its way straight through the urban area, initially parallel to the Manchester to Crewe railway, but then following a protected corridor on land formerly part of RAF Wilmslow. This video shows a northbound journey along the A34 Wilmslow-Handforth Bypass, from the A538 junction close to Wilmslow town centre, to the A555 roundabout, which lies on the Cheshire/Greater Manchester border. It is available in three versions; Front View: • A34 Wilmslow/Handforth Bypass (Part 2) - N... Rear View (this video): • A34 Wilmslow/Handforth Bypass (Part 2) - N...
