The Major Arcana are the ‘fate cards’, that form the mainstay of the Tarot . The Major Arcana relate to matters of higher purpose or deep significance and refer to spiritual matters and important trends in the questioner’s life. To further highlight this association, the structure of the tarots—the Major Arcana, the Minor Arcana, and the Court cards can be traced to the four Vedas. The Vedas are the most comprehensive and universal of all ancient Indian scriptures. They have guided our religious dictates for centuries and will continue to do so. It has been suggested that the Minor Arcana are similar to the four Vedas, representing the more day-to-day, ritualistic aspects of Hindu life. The Major Arcanas' are more akin to the teachings of the Upanishads, which stand for the more powerful and spiritual principles of life. The Upanishads, like the trumps, indicate self-realization and inspire people, engaged in the rituals of the Vedas, to go beyond their short-term goals and explore the greater meaning of life.
