(2 Jul 1977) ITALY: THE VATICAN St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, perhaps the most famous church building in the world, is the central feature of the Vatican City State. In this report we explore the 108 acres of the Vatican and take a detailed look at some of the famous - and not so famous but just as interesting - features of this tiny country whose Head of State is the Pope. Besides visiting the usual tourist places, we also investigate the services on which the people who live and work in the Vatican depend in their day-to-day lives - the quaint railway, the post office, the hospital and pharmacy. And we film inside the Secretariat of State and the radio station, thus obtaining an insight into the workings of the administrative machine that runs the Roman Catholic Church.
