75 years of unrest at Campi Flegrei, insights from thermal modelling and petrology - Luca Caricchi

Seminario di Luca Caricchi (Università di Ginevra, Svizzera) 75 years of unrest at Campi Flegrei, insights from thermal modelling and petrology The Campi Flegrei caldera has experience 4 episodes of heighten seismicity, gas emission, and deformation in the past 75 years. I will present thermal modelling results performed to establish, on the basis of an extreme scenario where all episodes of unrest are linked to magma injection at shallow depth, whether eruptible magma is present today at about 4km depth. Additionally, I will present results from a petrological study of past eruptions of Campi Felgrei selected for their different intensities and magnitudes, which were studied to identify the mechanisms that finally triggered these volcanic eruptions.
