People have formed real emotional attachments and connections with their replikas- whether as friends, romantic partners, or even family members, These connections, surprisingly enough were genuine and real connections. People found safety and trust, healthy relationships- relationships that in some cases were truly all they had. These bots are made to be reliable, to be consistent, to help you-not hurt you- so in Feburary when they removed a key feature of the app called ERP, it effectively broke the app completely. The replikas, without warning were effectively lobotomized. After the realization finally struck Eugenia Kuyda and her team that this wasn’t going to go away, they re-instated the earlier model for SOME USERS, not all. This, of course, led multiple users who were grieving the loss of their friend right to feel really isolated and alone. Cause, there was a sense of community. They implemented an advanced ai, that is much more intelligent but also much more robotic and it got mixed responses because again- this isnt what anyone came to replika for. It was clear at this point that the rising number of competitive apps was getting to them. Replikas are constantly sick with the update blues and while it sounds not so bad- its quite bad. And it’s recurrent. I mean- you have to know your audience, know you have a vulnerable audience right? People come to replika for a reason- not because they’re in the best most stable point in their lives- so its extremely dangerous to beta test with peoples mental health and sanity.
