LIVE: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Impeached Over Martial Law Declaration South Korean lawmakers on Saturday ( Dece 14 ) voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol for declaring a brief martial law. Out of 300 members, 204 voted in favor of impeachment on charges of insurrection, while 85 opposed it. As a result, Yoon has been suspended from office. The Constitutional Court of South Korea will decide within the next 180 days whether to uphold the impeachment. In the interim, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will serve as acting president. The impeachment follows a strong public backlash after Yoon declared the first martial law in South Korea since 1980 on December 3, citing a "threat from North Korean communist forces."
