Apologies for the low-res video and audio, but this was sourced from a VHS tape that is quite old. David Shepard was a world-renowned film preservationist and historian, whose influence has stretched as far from the Library of Congress to our own Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum, which would certainly not be what it is today without Shepard's involvement, input and expertise. Here, Shepard discusses what the American film landscape was like in the 1910's, and how the Essanay Film Manufacturing Company fit into the greater film business.
