On Christmas Eve, the Bear family needs a tree. Mama suggests getting one from Gus's lot, but Papa decides to find the "perfect" one in the mountains himself. Each tree Papa selects is occupied: the first by squirrels, skunks, and crows; the second by an eagle, wolf, and owl; and a third even has a tiny snowbird family. After seeing the tiny snowbird family's small, twig-and-seed tree, Papa realizes Christmas isn't just about tinsel and show, but about sharing, caring, and understanding others' needs. Papa spares the final tree and returns home empty-handed but with a new perspective, deciding to decorate their own home with bangles and bells instead of chopping down a home.
