Daggy and the Dickhead invented "high-country rock" with their first single "Sometimes Nothing'. It was recorded in August 1981, six months after they had formed in Taihape, New Zealand, and played their first gig at the local Gretna Hotel. The Dickheads were Mark Kennedy (vocals, lyrics), Dan McCartin (lead guitar, music), Tim McCartin (rhythm guitar), Paul Kennedy (drums) and Neil Mickleson (bass). Arranged by Mickleson, 'Sometimes Nothing' was recorded at EMI Lower Hutt, engineered by Frank Douglas, and self-released until it was taken up by WEA (NZ) a few months later. "Brothers", a five-track EP, came out in August 1982 on WEA.
