In the far southeast of Angola, the Lomba River meanders through a beautiful basin of grassland, reed beds and scrub forest in the Longa- Mavinga national park, which borders Africa's largest conservation area, the Kavango-Zambezi Trans-Frontier Conservation Area. All seems at peace. But on the left-hand river bank, a minefield lies beneath the earth. Thirty four years ago it was the starting point of a famous battle in Angola's civil war.
