Why do some overseas Chinese community celebrate Double Ten Day?? During the 1800s, China, then under the Qing Dynasty, was declining at a fatal rate. They lost the Opium War to Great Britain, their land was occupied by foreign powers, there were numerous rebellions, they lost many lives to famine - this period of time was also known as the "Century of Humiliation". When a country cannot protect its own people, citizens are going to become restless and overthrow the government. On 10/10/1911, a clash between a group of revolutionist and the Qing garrison erupted in Wuhan (known as the WuChang Uprising), which kick started the XinHai Revolution that ultimately led to the fall of the Qing Dynasty.
