The prestigious 'Central India Institute of Medical Science' (CIIMS) in Nagpur city has always been a hope for ordinary and poor patients. Famous neurosurgeon Dr. Lokendra Singh has contributed a lion’s share to making this institute a name to reckon with. He took over the responsibility as director of 'CIIMS' within three years of his appointment. He was instrumental in ensuring that patients received charitable donations of more than Rs 2,97, 61,163 in 2018. Over the past years, the number of OPDs, IPDs and neurosurgeries has increased by ten per cent due to the hospital's transparency and expert doctors. Dr. Lokendra Singh was born on July17,1957. After MBBS, he passed the MS (Surgery), M.H. (Neurosurgery), DNB (neurosurgery), and used his knowledge to help poor patients. Dr. Lokendra Singh's work at the hospital is very remarkable. A total of 74,263 patients were treated in the out-patient department of CIIMS hospital in 2016. In 2018, the number of patients increased to 81, 214. Dr. Singh has played a major role in making CIIMS what it is today. Last year, 4,000 new patients came to CIIMS due to the latest comfort and convenience available at the hospital. The number of surgeries also increased. Last year a total of 1870 surgeries and1379 neuro-surgeries were performed at the CIIMS. Of the 113 beds in the hospital, 20 beds have been reserved for poor patients. It has 10 beds for people Below the Poverty Line. A 100% free services are provided to these patients. Ten beds have been reserved for those patients whose annual income is less than Rs 1,60,000 and they are given 50 per cent concession in hospital fees. Apart from this, the poor patients admitted in the hospital are also offered medicines at a nominal price.
